Playing Dress Up

A client/friend recently sent me the picture (below) of a Pottery Barn Vanity Dress Up Station.  She requested I create something similar for her young, and absolutely adorable, daughter.

My daughter is now eight years old and beyond the 'dress up' stage.  Actually, she never really got into playing dress up.  My point?, I have long wanted to do a project like this but haven't had the need to... until now.

I've been doing a little research and have found a couple great options. Which one do you like best?

A simple dresser turned personal closet..so cute!  I can easily imagine a cute little girl hanging up and pulling out dresses as she stands before her 'closet' in her moms high heels.

I love the above recreation for the simple fact it has everything a little princess-wanna be needs. What tot wouldn't want a dress up station that has full vanity complete with lights, a closet and still enough room for accessories?

Another dresser, just a smaller version.

The above is not my favorite but it's creative non the less.

What dress up station would you choose if you were a young girl.  If you have a daughter, please chime in (either in the comments of this blog or on my Facebook page). Which would you want for your daughter?

Sitting pretty

I snapped a few pics while refurbishing a couple of chairs for my office.  The pictures are not great quality but I thought you might want to see the results non the less.

Refurbished Vintage Dresser

This 9-drawer dresser was refurbished and purchased for a baby boy's nursery.

This dresser was sold for $400.00.

Lets see what other dressers, similar in size, sell for:

Pottery Barn dressers:
Upper Left: Dawson $1,699.00
Lower Left: Sofia $1,399.00
Lower Right: Sofia $1,399.00

Restoration Hardware dressers:
Upper Right: Maison 6-Drawer Dresser $1,795.00
Lower Right: French Empire 7-Drawer Dresser $1,995.00

The cheapest dresser above ($1,399.00) is more than 3 times the price of the one-of-a-kind HDV dresser.

Yellow Refurbished Buffet

Not long ago my good friend asked me to refurbish her blah buffet. As you can see from the picture below, we were able to turn this from lack luster to a buffet that set the inspiration for an entire room.

If I were to sell this piece I would ask $450.00. But what would a piece like this cost in a furniture store?  I found a couple buffets comparable in size and stature.

Personally I was a bit shocked at the prices of furniture stores, are you?

The above buffet is the Aurora Server from Ethan Allen. This piece retails for $1,799.00

The lovely piece is the Hampstead Teak Buffet from Pottery Barn. This piece retails for $1,299.00

The Maldive Buffet is slightly bigger than our Yellow HDV Refurbished Buffet.  I choose this piece because it's distressed look is similar to our yellow piece.  The Maldive Buffet retails for $1,899.00

The cheapest buffet shown is over $800.00 more expensive than our one of a kind, refurbished piece. I may be bias but without hesitation I would choose the HDV buffet over the other, more expensive, options.  How about you - which would you choose (And I want your HONEST opinion).
